What is GMAT
|
| The GMAT is the standardized test used
by business schools to determine admission into their programs. The test lasts
approximately 3 1/2 hours. You'll have two half-hour essays that you'll write
first followed by a 5-minute break. Next, you'll have a 75-minute quantitative
section consisting of 37 questions followed by another 5-minute break. You'll
finish with a 75-minute verbal section consisting of 41 questions. |
| Questions are chosen from a very large
pool of test questions categorized by content and difficulty. Only one question
at a time is presented to you on the screen. The first question is always of
middle difficulty. The selection of each question thereafter is determined by
your responses to all previous questions. In other words, the adaptive test
adjusts to your ability level-you will get few questions that are too easy or
too difficult for you.

| You must answer each question and may
not return to or change your answer to any previous question. If you answer a
question incorrectly by mistake-or correctly by lucky guess-you answer to
subsequent questions will lead you back to questions that are at the
appropriate level of difficulty for you.

| The GMAT is one of three main things
an admission committee will use to determine whether to admit you. The other
two are your undergraduate scholastic record (i.e. grade point average) and
your work experience. You can't do anything about the former and probably can't
do too much about the latter.

GMAT Registration

| The Graduate Management Admission Test is
available, year-round, at test centers throughout the world. Please note that
the specific procedures for making a GMAT appointment in the United States ,
U.S. Territories and Canada are slightly different than other locations
around the world. In the united states , U.S. territories and Canada . it
may be possible to schedule your test within a few days of taking it, but
popular dates (especially weekends) book quickly. International test takers
should note that in some countries the GMAT may be offered only once per year,
so planning is essential. Refer to the admissions deadlines of the schools to
which you are applying and make your appointment early enough to increase your
chances of receiving your preferred test date at the test center most
convenient to you.
